Why is maths so important?

According to the OECD, “good numeracy is the best protection against unemployment, low wages and poor health.” So why is maths so important?

● Maths helps us make sense of the world around us. We all need it, not just for school, but for everyday life. It is vital to so many aspects of life, from cooking to constructing flat pack furniture, managing a budget to planning a holiday.

● It promotes problem-solving, reasoning and critical thinking skills. The same steps you take to solve a maths problem can be applied to other problems in life.

● Developing a growth mindset will have a positive impact on attitudes to learning, motivation, resilience and perseverance.

● Solving problems and improving maths skills keeps the brain active and healthy.

● Basic maths skills are important in any career, but more than that, many of the fastest growing careers over the next few years will heavily rely on maths.

Tutoring can unlock potential. Help your child grasp concepts and build problem solving skills. Reduce their cognitive load, increase their confidence and help them to enjoy maths.
